How was the Land Art name created?
Open tab25 years ago, our founder, Michael Deslandes, was working on a brand name for his products. With a little bit of research, he heard about the “Land Art” movement, which consists of creating art using the materials of the Earth, including plants and shrubs. He considered that this could also represent the art of making botanical formulations. At the same time, he notices that the word “land” was included in his family name, “Deslandes”. This is how our name came about.

Open tabCreating and producing products that are safe, effective and of the highest quality is our priority. All of our raw materials are tested for their authenticity, their purity and their efficiency. We also test our packaging products to ensure irreproachable quality. And we don’t stop there: we also test each batch of product for authenticity and purity. We then test each finished product lot, according to all of this criteria. Finally, we perform stability tests to validate the full shelf life of each product, in order to guarantee its effectiveness until the best before date. At Land Art, we go beyond the Health Canada requirements to ensure the irreproachable quality of each product. The quality of our products, it is what we are most proud of!
Are your products still good after the expiry date?
Open tabThe expiry date is indicated next to the lot number, on the label of each product. According to our stability tests, our products conserve their full effectiveness and quality until this date. If the best before date is passed, the product will not become dangerous for your health. We are just no longer able to guarantee the effectiveness. This being said, our stability tests generally indicate that the freshness of most products will remain up to about one year after the best before date. If you have any questions about this, do not hesitate to contact us.

Can I take Glucosamine if I am diabetic?
Open tabThere are no risks associated with taking Glucosamine if you are diabetic as it has no impact on blood sugar levels. The body cannot use the “glucose” portion of Glucosamine because the body is not able to divide the Glucosamine into two molecules (glucose and an amino acid). The body uses the Glucosamine entirely, it is therefore impossible for it to use the Glucosamine as a source of sugar. It is important to note that certain glucometers do react to Glucosamine, indicating a higher sugar level which does not actually affect your body. Your glucose level is, in reality, lower than indicated on your glucometer. Health Canada recognizes Glucosamine as a safe product for diabetics.
Why is sodium benzoate added to certain products?
Open tabCertain products require some sodium benzoate. The preservative is naturally found in benzoin, a resin sourced from certain plants. Sodium benzoate is recognized as safe by the World Health Organization and the European Commission. This preservative is highly effective to prevent the growth of yeast and mold. Not using it could lead to serious health consequences.
Once opened, how much time do I have to use the product?
Open tabOnce they are opened and kept in the fridge, we generally recommend that the product be used before the expiry date. However, with products that do not contain any preservatives, it is preferable to use the product within four (4) weeks after opening.
What does the NPN number indicated on the product label mean?
Open tabThe NPN number is a homologation number from Health Canada. It certifies that the formula has been validated for efficiency and safety by Health Canada.

Why chose a mineral supplement that is ionized?
Open tabBased on the principle that an ionized mineral is an element that is either negatively or positively charged. This means that, on a molecular level, this element has either too many or not enough electrons. This ionic instability allows the element to rapidly establish a link with water, in turn, allowing the body to absorb it. The instability of the element, which is constantly striving for balance, is a dynamic source that translates into easier mobility for nutrients in order to reach the parts of the body that need it. We can only benefit from minerals if we are able to absorb them properly. This normally happens in the small intestines. When the alimentary bolus passes through the small intestines, the minerals join the bloodstream by passing through the intestinal walls. Only the ionically charged minerals can pass into the bloodstream. Although stomach acids help to ionize minerals from food sources, a mineral based dietary supplement should supply naturally ionized minerals that are effectively absorbed.
About balanced Omega-3 / Omega-6 ratios
Open tabConsuming fish is less popular and industrial products containing Omega-6s have increased, thereby creating unbalance between the Omega-3/Omega-6 ratios. As both compete with each other, excessive Omega-6 is detrimental to the maximum efficiency of Omega-3 in the body. In order to be metabolized, Omega-3s and Omega-6s must compete for different enzymes, vitamins (vitamins B3, B6, C, E) and minerals (magnesium and zinc).
Excess consumption of Omega-6s can actually block the benefits of Omega-3s, notably on a the cardiovascular protection level. Too much Omega-6 may also provoke pain and inflammatory diseases such as asthma or arthritis.
It is estimated that the ratio of omega-6/omega-3 in the occidental diet is generally from 10/1 to 30/1 when it should ideally be between 1/1 and 4/1. Supplements containing Omega-6 should therefore be avoided.
What is Silica used for?
Open tabSilicon is implicated in the synthesis of collagen and elastin. It is an important constituent of tissue and arterial walls. The aorta is the tissue that contains the most, along with the skin and the thymus. The level of silicon in these tissues decreases with age, in high proportions (superior to 60-70 %). Silicon potentiates the action of zinc and copper and allows them to link to calcium.
What does traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) say ?
Open tabKorean Ginseng is used in TCM to reinforce Qi, help the spleen and the lungs, relieve symptoms of thirst associated with the lack of organic liquids and internal heat. It is mainly “hot”, therefore better adapted to men.
American Ginseng is used for insufficient Qi and Yin, for internal heat, for coughs and asthma, for the presence of blood in the mucous, for the fire during insufficient syndrome, for dysphoria and fatigue, for thirst, for dry mouth and throat. It is “cold”, therefore better adapted to women and adolescents.
How is the green tea prepared?
Open tabAfter harvesting, the tea leaves are left to wilt. They are then rolled to extract the juices and finally heated to neutralize the enzyme responsible for oxidation. Then, they go through a final drying process.
The heating is performed by one of two principle methods: the Chinese use copper basins on a heat source, whereas the Japanese pass the leaves through jets of vapor.

Where does royal jelly come from?
Open tabRoyal jelly is a substance secreted by young bees. It is the only food that the queen of the hive eats. It is with this food that she lives for 5 to 6 years, compared to only a few days for the worker bees.
It is reputed to reduce mental fatigue and stress, improve immunity, support recovery and treat sexual problems.
Royal jelly contains sugars, proteins, some fats, minerals, vitamins (mainly those from the B-group, notably B1 and B5), and oligo-elements.
Where does silicon come from?
Open tabFree silicon is abundant in nature in the form of quartz or diatomaceous strata. It is the latter source of pure silicon used by Land Art. The diatoms are micro-algea surrounded by a silicious external skeleton.
The skeletons of these micro-algea are deposited and accumulate on the sea floor, where they will be compacted and fossilized, forming veins of pure silicon. This silica is gathered, then freed from any impurities before use in our product. When then make a colloidal emulsion with pure water and a vegetable gum, making it perfectly bio-available.
Where does your Aloe Vera come from?
Open tabOur Aloe Vera is cultivated in Texas, according to certified organic methods. Only mature plants are harvested in order to obtain the maximum Aloe Vera active ingredients.
Are all omega-3s having the same properties?
Open tabBeware of other Omega-3 supplements. Most of them contain higher artificial ratios of EPA/DHA and boast about higher omega-3 levels. This means that chemical solvents and very high temperatures were used during fabrication in their laboratories. This intervention has detrimental effects because the natural molecular structure of the fish oil is destroyed. These artificial oils clog up our liver because our body must process them before using them. Many people develop an intolerance to these types of artificial oils that lead to eczema, digestive problems, etc. In conclusion, look for fish oils with a natural ratio of 18 % and 12 % EPA/DHA.
A higher quantity of omega-3 is not proof of quality!
Does black cohosh have an impact on female hormone levels?

The texture and the color of my silica varies; is this normal?
Open tabLand Art’s Silica is integrated in a base of pure apple juice, without any artificial colors, which may cause slight variations in color, flavor or texture. This phenomenon is absolutely normal and does not affect the quality of the product.
My teeth have changed colors; is this normal?
Open tabIron supplements may change the color of some people’s teeth.
If this happens, dilute the supplement in a glass of juice and drink it through a straw to avoid the problem.
My urine has turned yellow; is this normal?
Open tabDon’t be worried if there is a change in color of the urine when taking a supplement of the B-group vitamins. This phenomenon is absolutely normal.
Why is the quantity of each B-vitamin different?
Open tabIn order to adequately provide for all of your vitamin B needs. Our body has different needs for each vitamin and those in the B-group are no different. Too much of one vitamin may have undesirable side effects and be detrimental to the proper functions of metabolism. A well balanced formula, such as the one created by Land Art, must take into consideration the different ratios of each vitamin.
Why doesn’t MINERALEX contain iron?
Open tabPeople that do not have an iron deficiency should not take an iron supplement. This is the case for most women going through menopause and men.
People who have an iron deficiency often have specific needs so it is preferable to choose an iron supplement in order to properly adjust the dosage
Why is there alcohol in the Milk Thistle extract?
Open tabQuite simply, because the active elements of this plant are less soluble in water. Extractions using alcohol guarantee a product that contains a maximum level of active elements making it much more efficient.
What is red elm ?
Open tabRed elm bark should be in every family’s medicine cabinet. A tall tree native to eastern North America, it can be found in Quebec, in the south and the west of the province. Well-known to Native Americans, it is an emollient with a high nutritional value.
The phloem (the tender part of the interior bark, rich in mucilage), was collected to create a preparation that was used to feed babies, convalescents, the elderly and anyone suffering from digestive problems. A decoction was also applied to soothe wounds and different skin irritations. In 1890, the Sisters of Providence wrote their Traité élémentaire de matière médicale (Translation: Elementary Treaty of Medical Matters) in which they state that “There is nothing better to treat wounds, internal and external”.
Red elm clears infections and is easily absorbed by our body. It is efficient in cases of bronchopulmonary irritations, sore throats, colds, coughing and gastrointestinal pains. The medicinal properties are numerous: emollient, pectoral, nutritious, expectorant, cough suppressant, diuretic, lightly astringent, tonic and also soothes the throat and respiratory tract.
What is the silymarin (a flavonlignan)?
Open tabIsolated in 1968, silymarin is present only in the fruit. It is made up of three flavonoids: silychristin, silydianin and silybin. It acts directly on the hepatocytes, making toxins more difficult to absorb, stimulating their elimination and promoting the regeneration of hepatic tissue. As with other flavonoids, silymarin also has powerful anti-radical properties, thus preventing certain toxic products from damaging the liver. Also contains bitters, thyramin, histamin.
What exactly is ionization?
Open tabWe speak of an ionized molecule when the ion is pure and separated from the source structure. In most cases, an ionized molecule is more easily assimilated by the body because a part of the “digestion” work is already done.
In liquid supplements, water soluble molecules will be naturally ionized during fabrication. The product is known as a “solution”.
Products that are in “suspension” are not, completely nor partially, ionized because some elements are not water soluble. This is the case with liposoluble vitamins (A, D, E, K) or calcium carbonate for example.
A clue to determine if the product is ionized: it will be very liquid, like water, without any deposits. If the product is thick or has the consistency of a gel, there is no doubt that one (or many) of the elements that it contains is not soluble. The separation will then have to be done by the body.
Note: a solution may also become saturated if the quantity of molecules is too high, which will also create deposits.
Magnesium chloride is made up of a magnesium ion linked to a chlorine ion. As it is a soluble source, the link disassociated upon contact with water. The magnesium ions are therefore free within the solution and are ready to be assimilated by the body.
What is an adaptogen?
Open tabThey are certain biologically active natural substances, characterized by their capacity to selectively interact depending on the needs of the organism; they are also certain plants that contain these substances. Adaptogenic plants have a general action on physical, emotional and environmental stress.
They help to improve the organism’s defenses and available energy, speed up healing, improve nervous functions, contribute to stabilize blood pressure and blood sugar levels.
What is melatonin?
Open tabMelatonin is a hormone produced by the pineal gland (epiphysis). The secretion of melatonin is inhibited in the presence of light and stimulated when it is dark. The production decreases with age. The optimal dosage is not established because it varies a lot during studies.
In Canada, two types of melatonin are used in supplements: melatonin from the pineal gland of animals or synthetic melatonin.
For weaning off of benzodiazepines for people suffering from insomnia: 2 mg of melatonin taken at bedtime for 6 weeks (the benzodiazepine is reduced by 50% during the second week, by 75% on weeks 3 and 4, is then stopped during weeks 5 and 6), and continued for up to 6 months.
Note: weaning off of a medication which causes dependency should be done with the supervision of a health practitioner.
What is collagen?
Open tabCollagen is a structural protein, which means it shapes the organism by contributing to the structure, sort of like glue for tissues. It is also the most abundant protein in the body, representing 80% of of conjunctive tissue weight and forming 30% of all the proteins in the body. Collagen is essential for cohesion, elasticity and the regeneration of tissues.
There are a dozen types of collagen present in the different tissues in the body (bones, cartilage, skin, corneas, tendons, blood vessels, etc.).
Aging is one of the main causes of collagen deficiency. Actually, the production of collagen starts to decrease in our thirties, at a rate of 1 to 1.5 % per year. At this rate, it is 30% less collagen that is being produced by age 50. Considering that metabolism slows with age, the assimilation of collagen from dietary sources will also decrease.
Regarding rheumatoid arthritis, it is the complex immunological mechanisms that directly destroy the collagen in cartilage.
What do the Total Detox assets do?
Open tabMilk thistle is used in phytotherapy for the protection of the liver. It also supports the liver functions. Open tabEn plus d’un apport alimentaire insuffisant, d’autres causes peuvent entraîner une carence en magnésium :
- Other than insufficient dietary supply, other causes may lead to magnesium deficiency:
- Taking certain long term medications that increase the elimination of magnesium through the urine: diuretics, certain antibiotics (dentamicin, amphotericin) and cyclosporin (immunosuppressant).
- Poor intestinal absorption of magnesium caused by Crohn’s disease, celiac disease or intestinal surgery.
- Alcoholism.
- Taking oral contraceptions, estrogens or cisplatin (chemotherapy medication).
What are the consequences of stress?
Open tabWe believe that certain illnesses may appear as a result of chronic stress, especially if associated with family issues, environmental factors, personal or hereditary traits that may promote stress. These illnesses may present within different systems:

- Gastrointestinal (ulcers)
What is the Land Art’s step process for making collagen ?
Open tab1. Pre-treatment to prepare the raw material for extraction and to eliminate impurities that may have negative effects on the final physio-chemical properties.
2. The raw material is prepared for enzyme extraction. Relatively new, the enzyme treatments provide certain advantages compared to alkali treatments; the collagen is more pure and the physical properties are better.
3. Extraction, with hot water to hydrolyze the collagen.
4. Filtration and clarification.
What are the peculiarities of green tea?
Open tabGreen tea contains catechins called epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG).It is the EGCG that is responsible for the remarkable properties of green tea. Green tea (because it is not fermented), contains 10 times more EGCG than black tea and 2.5 times more than Oolong tea.
Green tea also contains theanine. It is a predominant amino acid in this tea, making up 1 to 2% of the weight of the leaves. Theanine stimulates the production of GABA and increases the concentration of serotonin and dopamine.
The effects of theine on the brain is proven to decrease physical and mental stress, and create a relaxing effect. It also increases the alpha rhythms in the brain (stimulation of cerebral activities).
What are the positive effects of collagen on the skin?
Open tabWith age, the decrease of collagen in the skin leads to the appearance of wrinkles. Skin has a tendency to crease because it loses elasticity. This is why we find collagen in many cosmetic products. However, collagen creams do not make wrinkles disappear. Actually, collagen is a molecule that is much too big to reach the dermis from the outside. The creams are mainly used to soften skin because collagen creams a really good, non-greasy moisturizers.

Vegetable or marine source for omega-3?
Open tabAlthough the efficiency of marine sourced Omega-3s is well established, vegetable sourced Omega-3s have not been sufficiently studied. However, we know with certainty that only marine sources supply a direct source of eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), the two fatty acids responsible for the therapeutic benefits of Omega-3s.
Vegetable sources, however, they contain alpha-linolenic acids (ALA), substances that the body transforms into EPA and DHA, although the action is limited (the conversion rate of ALA into EPA and DHA is less than 1% in humans). Diabetes, excessive use of alcohol, smoking and stress may all lead to difficulty or the inability to transform ALA.
