To the great delight of our team, since the launch of our spirulina products, people have been truly impressed by their pleasant taste. In addition to blending more easily in water, our spirulina has a subtle, enjoyable flavor with no unpleasant odor, allowing the organic aromas we’ve carefully selected to shine through.
We put a tremendous amount of effort into this aspect. After literally tasting and smelling every spirulina available in stores and online, our conclusion was clear: most spirulinas on the market did not smell good and tasted even worse! Many had a strong fishy odor and an unpleasant swamp-like flavor — all good reasons not to buy them again.
A challenge was therefore set before us: it was essential that our customers wouldn’t grimace when taking our spirulina. Spirulina is so nutritionally beneficial that it would be a real shame if its taste discouraged people from consuming it.
After extensive research, we discovered that many factors influence its flavor. This is also why we can confidently guarantee that our organic spirulina tastes better. Here are the 9 key factors that make the difference for our Land Art spirulina:
The cultivation method
There are two main methods for growing spirulina: open-air and greenhouse cultivation.
We chose greenhouse-grown spirulina to ensure better control over all the factors that influence growth and to protect it from external contaminants. Better control helps prevent the growth of harmful bacteria or algae, ensuring higher quality and consistency from one batch to the next.
The quality of the water
Water is vital for spirulina. We selected a producer that uses naturally alkaline groundwater. The water is not only pure but is also constantly tested and renewed. The water used during processing is also purified, ensuring the best possible flavor.
The nutrients used to grow spirulina
For growth and reproduction, spirulina needs light, carbon dioxide, minerals, adequate temperature and pH, and other essential nutrients. Some producers use various organic waste materials—even decaying matter.
Our producer uses only odorless, uncontaminated, plant-based organic materials that are safe for human consumption. Specifically, a certified organic liquid compost extract is used, which is digested by natural enzymes to increase nutrient bioavailability. This extract is also lab-tested to ensure high nutritional quality and the absence of heavy metals and contaminants. Everything is done with the utmost care to ensure exceptional quality.
The time between harvest and processing
Once spirulina reaches maturity, it must be harvested and quickly processed into powder. The time between these steps must be as short as possible because spirulina is still alive and can develop unpleasant odors and flavors when exposed to air and water for too long.
Our producer pays great attention to this step. Land Art spirulina is processed and powdered immediately after harvest, ensuring optimal flavor, aroma, and nutritional quality.
The drying method
The drying process is crucial since it can negatively affect spirulina’s nutritional value, smell, and taste.
Our spirulina is dried within seconds, preventing oxidation, preserving its nutrients, and maintaining an excellent flavor and optimal aroma.
Freshness
Our producer grows certified organic spirulina daily to guarantee unmatched freshness. They never store it for weeks or months. The organic spirulina we use is therefore the freshest possible.
Packaging quality during transport
To ensure the best flavor, our supplier packages our organic spirulina in opaque, vacuum-sealed containers. This prevents contact with light and air, so the spirulina remains intact during transport and does not develop unpleasant odors or tastes.
Land Art selects only the best batches
As an additional quality measure, Land Art only selects the best production batches. Before ordering, our supplier sends us samples from each available batch so we can analyze them in our laboratories (and with an external lab) for taste, smell, purity, and nutritional quality. Once the ideal batch is chosen, we authorize shipment to our facility.
The addition of Land Art chlorophyll to our spirulina
Although spirulina is green and contains chlorophyll, the chlorophyll naturally found in this microalga is not bioavailable or effective at neutralizing odors. That’s why we’ve chosen to add our Land Art chlorophyll to our spirulina, making it a superior product compared to anything else on the market.
Beyond its excellent taste, our quality assurance and control teams work tirelessly and with the highest level of rigor to ensure maximum purity.
All our finished product batches are thoroughly tested to guarantee the absence of contaminants such as heavy metals, residual solvents, bacteria, yeast, mold, and toxins.
Each batch must also comply with organic farming standards and meet our strict documentation requirements, including non-GMO, gluten-free, and major allergen-free declarations.
With Land Art Spirulina, you can be confident you’re getting the highest possible quality.
